There is so much talent in the streets of B-Town, but this talent does not always have the right platform to show its worth. In Bollywood, there are some actresses who have given mediocre performances but are still at the top and there are many others who are so full of talent but don’t have the right films to flaunt it. Here’s a list of Bollywood’s 10 Most Underrated Actresses…
1. Divya Dutta
Divya Dutta may have made a large number of films, but if some lead roles were offered, she could do much better in my opinion, and many others. All she’s been doing so far is, with very few exceptions, supporting roles. She is one of those few actresses who, just for the heck of it, are not afraid to break the stereotype and take on roles.
2. Konkana Sen Sharma
Konkana Sen Sharma has proved time and time again that she is an outstanding actress when it comes to parallel cinema, whether it be Page 3, Life in a Metro or Wake up Sid. But what I still don’t understand is why, in the case of mainstream cinema, she wasn’t that successful? What Konkana is worth, Bollywood needs to understand!
3. Lillete Dubey
Lillete Dubey has the two things that an actress needs to be the effective-a beautiful face and a talented mind. Yet, she is one of the film industry’s most underrated actresses. Her performances were simply effortless in Monsoon Wedding, Kal Ho Naa Ho. She is also an active theatre participant and is an acclaimed theatre director as well. She deserves a greater amount of credit than she has.
4. Mahie Gill
The depiction of a modern Paro in Dev-D by Mahie Gill is something that can never be forgotten and that was her film debut! She got a lot of praise after this for her depiction of a sexually frustrated Begum in Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster, and it’s a sequel. After that, she did a lot of low-budget movies, but she has yet to sign a big project with big names associated with it.
5. Nandita Das
Something is very wrong with Indian cinema’s skin tone obsession. The explanation why actresses like Kajol, Priyanka, lighten their skin tone with make-up is this obsession. But one of them has never been Nandita Das. She has always embraced her au natural beauty in films such as Fire, Earth, Bawander and given amazing performances. However, unfortunately, her talent has not received the recognition it deserves.
6. Radhika Apte
In Bollywood, Radhika Apte began her career with a meager role in Vaah! Ho Toh Aisi Life!. With her acclaimed performances in Badlapur and Hunterrr, her Bollywood breakthrough took place in 2015. Not to forget the short films she keeps doing from time to time, like Ahalya, The Calling. Fortunately, in Bollywood, she has begun to get a good response.
7. Sandhya Mridul
In Bollywood, Sandhya Mridul had a good start with films like Saathiya, Page 3, and Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd in her little kitty. Her versatility and her knack for taking non-conformist roles made her a cross-over movie darling. She vanished from the stage, but she made a come-back with the Angry Indian Goddesses this year. More and more, I wish to see her!
8. Shilpa Shukla
Best remembered for her appearance in Chak De! with Bindia Naik! Shilpa Shukla from India is full of talent from head to toe. Her intense and solid B.A. success Pass was so fine that she won Best Actress for it with the Filmfare Critics Award. This strong performer has not been seen since then in any great role.
9. Supriya Pathak
Supriya made her Bollywood debut with Kalyug after doing a lot of theatres, winning the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for it. Later, her appearance in Ki Raasleela’s Bazaar and Goliyon: Ram-Leela earned her two more Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Awards. Yet, we don’t get to see her as much on the big screen as we’d like.
