10 Illogical Ideas That India Has Adopted From West

For almost every other place in the world, the western world has had a great impact. But the degree of effect goes far too far when it comes to India. While some of the things that India has taken from the West are praiseworthy, most of the practices it has adopted do not make sense or lack logic. We took some references from the forum Quora. Let’s look at some of that illogical stuff that India borrowed from the West, with a promise obviously never to return.

1. Wearing Suits

In the west, suits are worn as the countries cool out. In India, a country with muggy and hot weather conditions for most of the year, that doesn’t make sense. No wonder a suitable –up Indian gentleman sitting in a meeting says, “In here it’s too hot! Can one switches the AC on, please? That is perfectly sensible now. C’mon, look at how our Honorable Premier is leading the country.

2. Putting On A Robe And A Funny Looking Cap During Graduation Ceremonies

Really? Can’t we just put on our academic dress?

3. Glass Buildings

Now, that’s what it is in. Whichever way you turn your head; you see majestic glass buildings that are tall. On entering them you will be frustrated by unnecessary glass use. Please give me a break. Countries in the west (which are cold) use glasses so the glasses can keep the buildings warm by trapping the sun. What’s the point of using them in such a hot country as India? There is no wonder AC bills are heaven-high.

4. Low Waist Jeans

Is the denim sliding down further to show the new style statement to your innerwear? I mean people humouring me.

5. Using The Word ‘Buck’ For Rupees

India has a currency of its own which is called the Rupee.’ Why are we going to have to say’ Buck,’ a currency used in America?

6. Using Fork And Spoon Even If It Doesn’t Call For

Rice is the staple food in India. Some Indigenous people love meat. Isn’t slicing your chicken leg piece with a fork and a spoon a bit awkward, time-consuming and not to mention noisy or do you prefer to gulp it down in one go?

7. Cake On Face

Is that your idea of having fun? Smearing your birthday icing on each other’s face? And people say, India still has a lot of people going to sleep in half-filled if not empty stomachs. What an irony, aren’t they?

8. Attestation By Gazetted Officers

The truth is that the British did not have complete confidence in the Indians, so they put this thing into action. It’s been over 70 years since they left but we still practice it extensively. The colonial hangover is an ideal example.

9. Valentine’s Day

Now, this is certainly a hell of a phenomenon that is overhyped. Plus, everybody knows all the immoral things that take place under the hide of it. For God’s sake, passion is not pure romance. In fact, the society of India doesn’t suit that of the West. We ought to stop copying them.

10. Having Sunday As A Holiday

Why all other days of the week on Sunday? The western world has this mainly due to its religious significance. Among them, Sunday is a Sabbath-a day of rest and adoration.
