A few hours shy of setting a global record, content creator Norme’s broadcast was abruptly taken down by YouTube. He was trying to beat the world record for the most hours without sleep by streaming for over 250 hours. Norme’s brother Don had kept him awake during the stream by forcing him to stand up when he became too tired and sprinkling water on him.

Norme’s broadcast immediately gained popularity, and many people came in to see him stay awake. He now has over a million followers. His viewers became increasingly concerned as the live stream continued because Norme began exhibiting severe symptoms of sleep deprivation, including fainting out, having hallucinations, and becoming unintelligible.

But, Norme quickly rushed to social media to reveal that, just 12 hours before he was meant to accomplish his objective, YouTube had pulled his Awake for 12 Days WORLD RECORD stream. He uploaded a photo of himself looking at a computer screen along with a notification from YouTube stating that his feed had been taken down.

Due to the significant health dangers and issues that going without sleep for an extended period might pose, the Guinness Book of World Records no longer keeps track of this record.

“I got banned from YouTube, literally 12 hours from goal istg crying rn,” he wrote in his post on X.

This is becoming completely out of control! In roughly 15 hours, YouTuber “Norme” will surpass the Guinness record for the least amount of sleep. He has been live the entire time, as far as I can tell. It’s scary to watch! tweet.com/dJgGTaz0D3— August 11, 2024, Matt Wallace (@MattWallace888)

Robert McDonald set the record in 1986, which Norme is attempting to surpass. Robert McDonald went without sleep for 453 hours and 40 minutes (18 days, 21 hours, and 40 minutes), according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
