An Indian woman was seen drying clothes on her room’s balcony at a five-star hotel in Dubai in a video that has since gone viral. Pallavi Venkatesh, an Instagram user, shared a video of her mother drying clothing at Atlantis, The Palm, where the family was vacationing.
Views on the video, titled “Moms just momming at Palm Atlantis,” have surpassed 11 million. In response, Atlantis’s official Instagram account The Palm remarked,
“Mom duties. We hope you enjoyed your stay! (We include a retractable drying cord in every bathroom, so that you can dry your clothing over the bath).”

Some social media users criticised the video, claiming it was impolite and disrespectful of hotel policies, while others stood up for the woman. As one user noted,
“The hotel literally commented and people are still crying,”
while another added,
“Everyone in the UK does it. It’s a natural way to dry clothes. Stop hating.”
The event spurred a heated debate on social media over whether it is appropriate to dry clothing on a luxury hotel balcony.
