A YouTuber’s post on a restaurant’s no-service-charge policy went popular for all the wrong reasons after social media fans were shocked by the food bill he shared online. On X (previously Twitter), Ishan Sharma posted a picture of a restaurant receipt, emphasising the establishment’s choice not to charge a service charge. However, the outrageous total price of ₹ 10,030 for an apparently typical North Indian dinner was what attracted the attention of the internet.

The lunch, which consisted of five dishes—pudina parantha, paneer khurchan, daal bhukhara, and paneer makhani with khasta roti—came with a hefty price tag. Sharma pointed out the “no service charge” note that was printed beneath the total. Sharma remarked, “Restaurants, take note!” in his post.

Social media users had a very negative response. Many were shocked and incredulous at the exorbitant costs. While one user drew attention to the ₹ 1,125 price for three paranthas, another noted that the ₹ 2,900 pricing for the paneer makhani alone appeared excessive. “Rs 10,000 is what most people would spend on a weekend getaway, not a single meal,” stated a user. “For the price you paid for the paneer, you could get a master’s degree at Darbhanga University!” said another in a sarcastic way.
