Due to some disparities in their pricing policies, food delivery services like Zomato and Swiggy frequently create headlines. Consumers frequently use social media sites to voice their concerns about these kinds of problems. In response, the meal delivery apps frequently provide a clarification or pledge to fix the problem.

This time, it’s a humorous post on the social media site X that opens your eyes. After posting a startling disparity in the costs of two of India’s largest meal delivery services, Swiggy and Zomato, a user ignited a discussion over food delivery prices.

When Siddharth Mishra, an X user, saw a noticeable discrepancy between the bills for the same food ordered from Swiggy and Zomato, he made fun of the food sites.

To compare the costs, the user uploaded a screenshot of both bills. The user initially posted his Zomato bill, which shows that he placed an order for two New Hand Tossed, Medium Margherita pizzas from Domino’s Pizza. On Zomato, the entire order amount is Rs 555.70. In contrast, Rs 402 is the total Swiggy bill for the same food items from the same eatery.

The user wrote,

Ordered the exact same food on Swiggy and Zomato. @Swiggy charged Rs 402, @zomato Rs 550. Bro, am I paying for pizza or a 5-minute Zoom call with the chef?

The user made a joke about the Rs 148 price difference for the same dish.

In a clarifying statement, Zomato stated that different discounts were applied, which is why the final amount varies:

In response, Zomato Care stated that the cost of food items is the same on both platforms. Because the user applied a reduction on the Swiggy bill, the final invoices differ. They also mentioned that different restaurant packages and GST can cause the bill to change. These fees may differ between platforms as well as between restaurants.

Zomato replied,

Hi Siddharth, please note that the item value is the same on both platforms. The difference in the total bill is due to varying discounts applied, and GST and restaurant packages. These may vary from platform to platform and from restaurant to restaurant. We hope this helps.

Although the tweet was intended to be funny, it also draws attention to the customer’s carelessness in failing to notice that the final bills’ price discrepancy was caused by a Swiggy discount. The food item he ordered costs the same on Swiggy and Zomato.

Nonetheless, a variety of factors, such as various platform commissions, delivery fees, packaging expenses, or even promotional pricing patterns, can be responsible for some of the disparities.
