Nancy Tyagi, an influencer, hails from the Uttar Pradesh village of Baranwa. Her “Outfits From Scratch” series, in which she was spotted shopping in Delhi’s marketplaces and then making celebrity-inspired ensembles for herself, helped her become well-known on social media. Her breakthrough came when she walked in her invention at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, and her content was praised for its inventiveness and relatability. The fashion influencer is currently in the news for allegedly charging Rs. 70,000 for one of her products.

Nancy Tyagi sells one of her outfits at an extravagant price of Rs.. 70,000
Nancy was seen selling one of her clothes for Rs. 70,000 in a Reddit post that went viral and caused quite a commotion. Nancy is a talented, industrious person with a grounded, independent personality. However, Nancy apparently sold her dress for Rs. 70,000, suggesting that her self-made personality is currently unloved. “Yeh fungus wala capsicum jaisa outfit kharid kon raha waise?” said one Redditor. “Nahi yeh toh inverted broccoli hai,” said another user. She can sell it for 75,000 kyunki, which is her mother’s favourite colour.

“And it’s not even an original design,” one person wrote, sharing a screenshot of a reference photograph to further demonstrate that the garment was not unique. This is a really well-liked design from Pinterest, if you do a reverse image search. Although many referred to Nancy as a gifted seamstress, critics disliked the notion of referring to her as a designer because she lacked both originality and knowledge.

Neha Bhasin calls out Nancy Tyagi for falsely claiming of stitching her gown
During her second appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, singer Neha Bhasin took to her Instagram Stories to accuse Nancy of fabricating a story that she patched her clothes. Neha posted a picture of herself in a similar outfit from a previous performance. Through her anecdotes, Neha did disclose that Nancy was not breaking any laws when she made a dress for herself. The singer hinted that Nancy was, in a sense, making money off of stolen designs by selling them out. According to reports, she attempted to pass off the clothing as her own at Cannes 2025. On Instagram, she posted narratives and captioned them:
“This corset looks too familiar, hmmmm. Just wondering. Same Same.”

When a stylist named, Surbhi Gupta claimed Nancy Tyagi steals designs
The Source Bombay’s creator and stylist, Surbhi, previously revealed in an interview that her Cannes ensemble was indeed stolen from their store. Surbhi shared Nancy’s assertion that she sewn her own outfit, but she didn’t think it was true. Surbhi revealed that Nancy spent Rs. 25,000 for her Cannes ensemble and remarked:
“She purchased it, so she’s free to do what she wants with it. But it is our design. We didn’t do a barter or a collaboration. She did not stitch it herself, which she claims she did. The cape she wore doesn’t belong to me… that’s something she seems to have made herself, I guess.”
