Three officers were suspended by the Gurugram Traffic Police after a Japanese man posted a video of himself being “fined” Rs 1,000 for riding on a pillion without a helmet. After a number of social media users pointed out that the “fine” was actually a “bribe” because no receipt was given, the episode went viral.
In the video, which is labelled “1,000 fine for not wearing a helmet,” Kaito said that he was penalised while many people who were not wearing helmets were disregarded.
A text overlay that said, “POV: you got stopped by the police in India because you don’t look like an Indian,” was added to the film, which has received 78,000 views. It starts with Kaito riding a two-wheeler as a pillion behind a woman. A traffic cop stops them a little while later and fines them Rs. 1,000.
Kaito handed over two Rs. 500 notes and said that he preferred to pay on the moment rather than in court. He was told to pay with cash when he enquired about the possibility of using Visa Touch. Kaito pointed out that some bikers without helmets were being disregarded when paying the punishment. In the video, he stated, “There are a lot of people here who are not wearing helmets.”

Social media users quickly poured solutions and ideas into the comments area. Did you receive a receipt from them? Otherwise, they defrauded you, which is bribery. You ought to discuss this with the chief of police in the area. One reply said, “You can tag them.”
“On behalf of India, please accept my sincere apology. While one person added, “One guy literally went past them without a helmet,” another remarked, “We must do better.”
When a person enquired about the city where the incident took place, Kaito responded that it was Gurugram.
