You wouldn’t often expect to find an SD card and a bunch of coriander in the same shopping bag. However, a Bengaluru venture investor received just that from Swiggy Instamart, provoking quips that the modest “free dhaniya” custom had made it from local marketplaces to smartphone screens.

Ritesh Banglani, a venture entrepreneur from Bengaluru, recently made people laugh on social media by posting a surprise he got with a Swiggy Instamart order. Banglani was expecting nothing more than an SD card, but instead the delivery included a bonus bunch of fresh coriander.

“Indian quick commerce is wild,” he commented, sharing the strange discovery on X. I received some dhaniya for free when I ordered an SD card.

Users found comedy in the fact that a contemporary quick-commerce platform appeared to have copied one of India’s oldest buying traditions, and the article immediately gained popularity.

Many made jokes about how free dhaniya is always present when purchasing electronics or vegetables.

Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the founder of Paytm, was among many who reacted, finding the story hard to believe. “Tell me this is a joke and not real,” he said. If not, I’ll ROFL,” he said in a post remark.

Banglani posted a screenshot of his order, displaying the SD card and the free coriander leaves, to allay any suspicions. It’s interesting to note that his experience wasn’t unique. Vinay Kesari, an X user, responded to Banglani’s article by saying that he had experienced a similar surprise earlier this year. When Kesari ordered an iPhone via a quick-commerce platform in May, he found that his delivery also contained some fresh dhaniya. Users were even more amused when he posted pictures of the order as evidence.
