Bigg Boss 20 contestant Qazi Touqeer has addressed a long-standing rumour linking singer Arijit Singh to Rooprekha Banerjee. In an old interview that has resurfaced, Qazi clearly stated that the claims of Rooprekha being Arijit’s first wife are nothing but rumours.
Qazi Touqeer and Rooprekha Banerjee won the reality show Fame Gurukul together in 2005. Arijit Singh was also a participant on the same show but did not win. Over the years, online speculation has continued about whether Rooprekha was once married to Arijit.
What Qazi Said
When host Siddharth Kannan brought up the topic, Qazi looked surprised and firmly denied the claim. He said:
“Nahi yeh sach nahi hai ye toh sara rumours hai, is par aajata hai Google par. I don’t think so. Yeah, yeah, I am sure, ye toh main khud dekh raha hoon social media par.”
(“No, this is not true. These are all just rumours that come up on Google. I don’t think so. Yeah, I am sure. I myself keep seeing this on social media.”)When asked if he had ever spoken to Arijit about it, Qazi replied that he does not ask his friend about who his first wife was. He made it clear that Rooprekha was not Arijit’s first wife. According to him, their conversations usually revolve around everyday topics like the weather.
About Collaborating with Rooprekha
Qazi also explained why he and Rooprekha did not continue as a musical pair after Fame Gurukul. He said the “jodi” (pair) concept was mainly for the show. After winning, he wanted to explore acting, which he later did.
Qazi’s Bond with Arijit Singh
Despite the years that have passed, Qazi and Arijit have remained close friends. On Bigg Boss 20, Qazi has spoken warmly about Arijit, calling him “my life.” He praised Arijit’s extraordinary dedication to music, saying the singer can sit with his sitar for hours without getting tired and completely loses track of time while immersed in the process.
Arijit Singh also publicly supported Qazi by posting on X:
“I will have to watch BIG BOSS for the first time in my life because Apna Rockstar QAZI hai udhar.”
Even host Salman Khan has been impressed by Qazi, calling him the only “rockstar” in the Bigg Boss 20 house.
