A young content creator from Maharashtra has sparked a conversation about women’s night-time safety after dressing up as a woman and riding around Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on a scooter.
Shivom Cheke, who runs the Instagram account @unfiltered_shivaaa, decided to test how safe the city feels for women after dark. Inspired by a similar experiment recently conducted in Delhi, he wore women’s clothes, tied a scarf around his head, and set out on his scooter to document the experience.
At the beginning of the video, he tells viewers:
“Guys aaj main ladki banke dekhne waala hun ki Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar mein ladkiyaan raat mein kitni safe hai.”
(“Guys, today I’m going to become a girl and check how safe women are at night in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.”)
What He Experienced
Shivom said that the moment he stepped out on the road, people started staring at him. He rode through different parts of the city and noticed that many onlookers continued to look at him intently, even from a distance when he stopped.
However, not all interactions were negative. Some people approached him on their own and asked if he needed any help. Reflecting on the mixed responses, he remarked:
“Logon mein haiwaniyat toh hai, but kuch logon mein abhi bhi insaniyat bachi hui hai.”
(“There is brutality among people, but some still have humanity left.”)
The most unsettling moment came when a man followed him for a long time. In the video, Shivom appears scared and says:
“Main itni der se ghoom raha hun aur bhai ek ladka itni der se mera peecha kar raha hai na.”
(“I’ve been roaming for so long, and one guy has been following me for so long.”)
Public Reaction
The video has gone viral on social media. Viewers are discussing the kind of behaviour women often face while travelling alone at night in public spaces. Many have shared their own experiences and opinions about safety in Indian cities after dark.
