In the modern world, finding the ideal life partner is important. For this reason, many people are using marriage-related websites to meet their soul mates. People still tend to judge women according to their preferences, even though the idea looks cool and contemporary. People often downplay the challenges that women face in their pursuit of fulfilling marriages. Many people think those challenges don’t matter in the grand marriage scheme.

However, as a woman in a very patriarchal country, navigating the system of arranged marriage is far more difficult, as many individuals are oblivious. There is a lot of pressure on women to conform to this system. Sometimes women have to repress their social, emotional, and physical needs. But as soon as someone attempts to overcome those obstacles, slut-shaming ensues. A Delhi woman was subjected to similar treatment after disclosing her genuine requirements for a good husband on a marriage website.

A Delhi woman, who listed her honest demands on a matrimonial website, went viral

When women in the realm of planned marriages voice their own needs, they frequently face criticism and rejection. On the other hand, some guys on dating websites prefer to disparage women who dare to be open and honest about their goals.

A similar instance happened recently when Shonee Kapoor, a male, tweeted a screenshot of a woman’s profile from a website that deals with marriage. The woman works as a psychologist and makes between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 7.5 lakh a year. She is 33 years old. She made it clear in her profile what kinds of things she didn’t like—she wasn’t “traditional” or “family-oriented.” She also refused to move for a marriage, did not cook, and did not want children.

Delhi woman shamed for listing her honest demands

But Shonee disregarded her right away, saying she was more interested in a “retirement plan” than a committed marriage. It disregarded her freedom of speech. Men in particular became emboldened by this and launched a campaign of denigration and criticism of the woman for her decisions. She received flak for not knowing how to cook, wanting kids, and not wanting to move for her partner.

Many netizens supported women and criticized Shonee for judging her

Thankfully, a sizable crowd turned out to support the woman and assert that she was quite entitled to make her wishes known. Numerous people emphasised that she has no desire to trick anyone into getting married.

I don’t understand what’s the hue and cry on this, bcoz it’s a female’s profile. It’s her life & honesty that before marriage, she has disclosed openly her choices. You shouldn’t have shared her profile along with the pic. It’s invading someone’s privacy & generally illegal…

If someone’s profile does not align with their vision, they are free to look elsewhere in the interim. But it is unnecessary and wrong to abuse her. What are your thoughts on this? Please feel free to leave a comment below this post with your ideas.
