Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap referred to a tweet by Kangana Ranaut about not bowing down to enemies and upholding self-respect. Anurag said sarcastically in his tweet that Kangana is the real Manikarnika, and should be sent to China to fend off incursion.
“Only you can save us, sister — the one true Manikarnika,” he wrote in Hindi. Take with you four or five citizens, and the war against China. See how far they’ve come within our territory. Show them that, before you’re there to help us, India has nothing to worry about. The LAC is just a one-day trip from your home. Come on, our tigress. Jai Hind, Jai Hind.’

In her original tweet, Kangana wrote in Hindi, ‘I am a fighter. I may trim my head, but I won’t bow it. For the honour of my country, I will always lift my voice. I live with honour, esteem, self-respect and I will live as a nationalist proudly! My values I would never compromise. I’m never going to do that! Jai Hind, Jai Hind.’
“Responding to Anurag’s tweet, Kangana wrote in Hindi,” Okay, I’m going to go to the border, you can go to the next Olympics, haha, the country needs gold medals. This is not a movie in the B-grade where the actor becomes something. You’re basically taking metaphors. When did you become so dumb? When we used to be friends, you were very smart.’

Previously, in an interview, Anurag had said he used to be very good friends with Kangana, but after 2015 their friendship soured. Anurag had written in a series of tweets in Hindi, “I saw the interview given to Kangana yesterday. At one time she used to be a very good friend of mine. By coming in for my films, she used to inspire me. But this new Kangana I do not recognise. And I just saw this scary interview with her, which was just after Manikarnika was released. Everyone is similarly seduced by the intoxication of performance and vigour, whether it is insider or outside. ‘Know from me, be like me,’ and before 2015, I had never learned this from her. And it has since come to the point that those who aren’t with.
He added, “The one who exploits all of his directors, sits in the edit and cuts all of the co-stars’ positions. Any of her old directors who used to admire Kangana with whom she shied away from working with her. The power that Kangana thinks he has acquired to undermine others … You finish her by having her sit on your head by not showing the mirror to that Kangana. I’ve got nothing to say anymore. What’s she doing fuckin?

Also, Kangana and Anurag had disagreements over the movie Saand Ki Aankh. Anurag said if it was rewritten into a tale of a solo heroine, Kangana offered to do the two-hander.
