Dating apps have become one of the most practical ways to meet new people or find love in today’s hectic society. People seek to establish genuine friendships with a few swipes. However, expectations and reality don’t always align. As demonstrated by the story of a Delhi-based man who went on a date and was taken aback by a ₹12,000 cost, sometimes the ideal date becomes a nightmare.
A man from Delhi had a disastrous dating experience after nearly falling victim to a fraud involving a Rs 12,000 bill.
Dating apps, which provide a quick and easy way to meet new people, have revolutionised relationships in the modern world. However, under the surface of small conversation and swipes, a darker reality is taking shape, one that involves deceiving people and taking advantage of their trust to leave victims emotionally and financially spent. Even though these situations are becoming more frequent, many people are still ignorant of how complex and deceptive these schemes may be.
This hazard is clearly illustrated by the recent experience of a man who lives in Delhi. A seemingly innocent rendezvous that was set up through a dating app swiftly turned into a well-planned scam. After inviting him to Locus Cafe, which is located east of Kailash, the woman, who went by the name Bhumi, started ordering Jägerbombs, which cost Rs 1,200 apiece.
The man revealed that he barely had Rs 3,000 to spend, so he was taken aback when the total came to Rs 11,958. Conveniently, Bhumi said she had just Rs 100 on her when he asked that the bill be split. After she abruptly left the cafe, Varsha, the purported owner, intervened and threatened to call the police and impose an additional Rs 10,000 punishment on him if he didn’t pay the debt.
The man summoned a friend for assistance after realising he was being cornered, and he was able to eventually reduce the price to Rs 2,500. The cafe’s aggressive methods were exposed by this sudden and drastic “settlement,” which also exposed the entire incident—including the girl—as a carefully thought-out swindle.
The man narrated the whole tale of Reddit
The man shared this horrifying experience on Reddit’s r/LegalAdviceIndia subreddit.

Internet users responded in a wide range of ways in the comment section:
Netizens poured amazement, encouragement, and cautions into the comment area of the man’s Reddit post as it gained popularity. Numerous readers related remarkably similar tales of themselves or friends who had fallen victim to the same kind of scam, which frequently involves a woman enticing them to a particular cafe, placing costly orders, and then vanishing, leaving the male with an exorbitant bill.
Many noted that although these scams are now well-known, one must remain vigilant to prevent falling for them. Some even recommended group action, such as posting negative Google reviews for the café to alert potential consumers.
