India defeated Pakistan in a nail-biting match by 5 wickets with just 2 deliveries remaining thanks in large part to the cool-as-a-cucumber Hardik Pandya, who completed the innings with a massive six to Mohammad Nawaz. Ravindra Jadeja attempted to draw the first delivery when he needed 7 runs off the previous 6 pitches, but he missed the ball, which, sadly for Indian supporters, disturbed the woodwork. Dinesh Karthik, who referred to the supporters as “the finisher,” took a single and put Pandya back on strike.
After the third delivery produced no run, all eyes were focused on Pandya, who maintained his composure. Pandya went big and hard, signalling to Karthik that he had things under control.
Pandya’s heroic exploits with both the bat and the ball were hailed as a memorable victory for Indians after the Men in Blue were humiliated by arch-rivals Pakistan in the T20I World Cup the year before.
Pandya finished the game undefeated for 33* with bowling scores of 3/25.

Jadeja and Pandya unleashed themselves on Pakistan’s cramping bowlers as they needed 41 runs from the final four overs. In the penultimate over, Pandya hit three fours, making the final over simple for India. Jadeja was bowled out on the first ball of the over, which slightly changed the flow, but Pandya completed the task with a maximum. During his game-winning innings, he notched four fours and a six. The all-rounder earlier turned up a strong performance with the ball, taking three wickets.
