Technical support workers most likely don’t know the answer to your question when they ask you to stay on the line. Some taxi companies don’t tell riders that ratings below 4.7 out of 5 put drivers on probation. In fact, there are interesting details about each job.

1. Flight attendants and their salary

Many of us probably don’t know that flight attendants only get paid when the main cabin door is closed. That means that if the flight lasts for 1 hour, they only get money for this hour.

They don’t get paid while boarding or after the engine is off and the plane is stopped — despite the fact that they probably came to the airport 2 hours before the flight even took off.

This is especially disappointing for people who work on a plane when it gets delayed. And during this time, they get nothing but complaints from frustrated passengers.

2. Waiters and runners

Many of us may have heard stories about people who come to restaurants and do everything to avoid paying for their meals. But one question remains: what happens to the servers?

Restaurants actually make the staff pay when customers “dine and ditch.” Let’s hope that people who work in this industry don’t have to work hard just to pay money out of their own pockets.

3. Brain surgeons and their schedule

It may be hard to believe but a brain surgeon can sleep just 3 hours a day at times. We know that it’s a tough and difficult job but besides this, they can work 120 hours a week when they train. Some operations can last 12-15 hours!

In addition, brain surgeons accept 30-40 patients a day and can be called into work at night.

4. A maitre d’ and bribes

There’s a stereotype that if you’re a celebrity or a rich person, you just give bribes in order to get immediate entrance everywhere. Turns out, this simply isn’t true.

There are certain rules a maitre d’ and a host must follow. They don’t take bribes for a table but still can take the money and not give the party a table if they don’t have a reservation.

5. Garbage collectors and old stuff

The average annual salary for a garbage collector in the US is almost $38,000. This profession is really hard and is the fifth most dangerous job in America.

Thanks to garbage collectors, old items get a second life. For example, an old vacuum cleaner can be unclogged and old TVs can be returned back to where they came from and installed somewhere else. If you don’t want to use something anymore, it doesn’t mean that it can’t be useful.

6. Judges and decisions

Judges can be way more anxious about their work than they let up. Just imagine: they need to listen to advocates all day long and sometimes the main point of the matter can get lost in the shuffle. It’s very important for judges to keep their concentration because a lot of people struggle in their lives and don’t deserve to be discounted.

Even the smallest cases for them can be very important and full of secrets. This job often opens a window into a darker side of people. Judges can hear millions of disturbing and interesting stories. The job isn’t even about judging people, but rather, it’s about ensuring that everyone gets justice.

7. Hair waxers and men

There’s not that much that can shock a waxer when it comes to the human body. It doesn’t matter if it’s a woman or a man. 20%-30% of waxers’ clients are male.

And, yes, sometimes it can be difficult not to laugh. People are different and can ask about various hairstyles including tough logo designs, but in most cases, a more natural style is requested.

8. Psychics and the truth

Psychics can have a great influence on us, especially on emotional and sensitive people. That’s why they need to be careful when breaking the bad news to clients. It’s inappropriate for them to tell you that you’ll die soon or that you’ll have a serious accident, even if they see it.

A psychic would be better off telling you which part of your life you need to pay attention to. For example, they may say to take care of a stomach ailment or to not use a car for a week.

9. Magicians and tricks

There is always a bit of mystery behind a magician’s work. Neuroscientists Susana Martinez-Conde confirms that magicians have studied the art of illusion for at least hundreds of years while scientists have only been studying for a few decades.

There are 3 basic techniques: optical, mechanical, and psychological. Tricks can be based in contrast to making objects appear and disappear. Also, your brain is able to pay attention to one thing while shutting out other information like in the picture above.

For example, magicians may use comedy to make you not notice something. So each time a joke is made, that’s probably when real “magic” is happening.
