On Thursday, November 21, Mohammed Shami, a prominent Indian pacer, criticised former Indian middle-order batsman Sanjay Manjrekar on Instagram for his forecast. Manjrekar, who is now an expert, had predicted that Shami’s recent fitness issues will result in a lower price tag for him in the upcoming IPL 2025 big auction. Shami has only participated in one First Class match in the past year, despite taking 24 wickets in seven ODI World Cup 2023 matches.
The 34-year-old bowler was left out of India’s 18-man team for the five-match Test series against Australia and missed both the 2024 IPL and the 2024 T20 World Cup due to injury-related concerns.
Shami, however, took offence with Manjrekar’s forecast of his prospects in the lucrative league and scolded him by tweeting, “Baba ki jay hoooooo.” Sanjay G, is it true that the future will be a lie? Future janna hai to sir se mile kisi ko.”
Shami’s direct jab at Manjrekar in his Instagram story is currently trending on the internet.
Since making his IPL debut in 2013, Shami has represented the Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders. The 34-year-old Amroha cricket player has taken 127 wickets in 110 games thus far. He helped GT win the title in 2022, and he finished as the tournament’s top wicket-taker in 2023 after dismissing 28 batters in 17 games.
However, GT didn’t keep Shami despite his strong performance during the two years. Nonetheless, the franchise located in Ahmedabad will have the opportunity to re-sign through RTM. After choosing to keep five players from the 2024 squad (Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Shahrukh Khan, and Rahul Tewatia) for a total of Rs 51 crore, GT will enter the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah on November 24 and 25 with a purse of Rs 69 crore. They can also use RTM for one capped player.
