Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is heading an all-party parliamentary mission to five nations following Operation Sindoor, met a number of luminaries at an event in Panama, including Miss Panama 2019 and the former first lady of Panama.

Tharoor posted pictures of himself with Indian-origin Mehr Eliezer, the 2019 Miss Panama, Lorena Castillo de Valera, the former first lady of the Central American nation, and Genesis Alonjo, a former member of Panama’s parliament, on Thursday.

The winner of the beauty pageant was characterised by Shashi Tharoor as an ambitious politician. He also called two additional ladies, Milena Alvarado and Kathy Bhiku, who are Indian-Panamanian, “instrumental in the success of our mission.”

More than 1.5 million views, more than 2,500 replies, almost 4,000 reposts, and 35,000 “likes” were received by Tharoor’s post on X, which included pictures of the individuals he identified.

In Panama, what did Shashi Tharoor say?

On Wednesday, while in Panama, Tharoor met with the country’s president and foreign minister and showed them photos of Pakistani Army representatives at the funeral of UN-designated terrorists slain in India’s Operation Sindoor.

The group had met with the Panama assembly president and other lawmakers just the day before, outlining India’s position on terrorism and Pakistan’s connections to terrorism.

Speaking to President Dana Castaneda of the Panama Assembly and a few other lawmakers, Shashi Tharoor claimed that India only began Operation Sindoor on May 7 after waiting to see if the Pakistani government would do anything to apprehend the terrorists behind the April 22 Pahalgam attack.

“We attacked the known terrorist base headquarters inside Pakistan two weeks later, on May 7, when it was evident that nothing was being done. “We felt that a terrorist act must not go unpunished, even though we had no interest in starting a war,” he continued.

The all-party group led by Tharoor visited Colombia on Thursday after visiting Panama. The Indian ambassador in the South American country welcomed the team.
