She is the daughter of actress Shobhna Samarth and producer Kumarsen Samarth and is a member of the Mukherjee-Samarth dynasty. Tanuja is married to Shomu Mukherjee, a filmmaker, and the couple has two children, Kajol and Tanisha.
Tanuja Mukherjee is best known as the mother of Kajol and Tanisha Mukherjee, but the lovely actress has developed her own image and personality via films like Haathi Mere Saathi, Jewel Thief, Anubhav, and Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi. She has also won two Filmfare awards for her outstanding performance. She has also stretched her horizons outside of Hindi cinema, with roles in Gujarati, Marathi, and Bengali films.
Tanuja was always a strong and independent lady ready to make a mark while she was connected with Bollywood, yet she has continued to show up in films on the whim, her most recent work being when she played the character of a widow in the Marathi film Pitruroon, directed by Nitish Bharadwaj.
