Canada’s portrayal has been widely misconstrued in popular culture. Like many countries, it tends to be boiled down to a few features and stereotypes, and the world, despite what some might assume, is not just made up of Tim Hortons, Mounties, and maple trees. Rather, the Great White North offers travellers an enormous variety of unique and pleasant experiences to get into (not to mention a massive country).

It’s a destination you definitely should have on your travel list, and if you end up making the trek to explore Canada, here are eight of the amazing things you can do.

1. Spend The Day At Niagara Falls

There’s a reason why tourists come to see Niagara Falls from all over. Not only are the waterfalls awe-inspiring, in the region there are a ton of fun (and free) things to do. Visitors can ride the recreation trail of the Niagara River, climb the Niagara Glen, or walk through the stunning Botanical Gardens. Guests will also be treated at night to an impressive fireworks show, depending on the weather. And that’s all before we get to the different ways of exploring the real waterfalls, either by boat or by road. Throw yourself into the area’s luxurious hotels (complete with restaurants and spas), and it’s a holiday for yourself.

2. Explore Old Quebec

If you’re in the city, make sure you’re in Old Quebec for a day. You can simply wander through the cobblestone streets and find wonderful restaurants, quaint boutiques and historic landmarks such as the Augustines Monastery and the Morrin Centre. There is only a few “Old Towns” worth your tome in Canada (Montréal’s is amazing), but it’s as good or better to choose as anyone else.

3. Visit Canmore Caves

Try out Canmore Caves, outside Calgary, if you’re up for an adventure. Guests can book discovery tours of 40 minutes throughout the year at this spectacular location. That said, there are also a couple of seasonal events in Canada’s largest caves. For instance, visitors can watch the horror movie The Descent in the vast caverns in the spirit of Halloween. Apart from the seasonal events, every tour is $135 per person.

4. Enjoy A Toronto Maple Leafs Game

Hockey is going hand in hand with Canada. And, with a stop at a Toronto Maple Leafs game at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, you can get a real taste of Canadian culture (and pure fun). Generally, the home team is strong these days, as demonstrated by Canada’s online sports betting sites, which have the Maple Leafs among the top contenders for 2019-20 in the NHL. But it’s a worthwhile experience, even if you’re not there for the hockey. You’re going to be among the happy locals, and you can always enjoy a beer and some poutine at home!

5. Stop By The Gopher Hole Museum

To say the least, this museum is unique. The Gopher Hole Museum is devoted to taxidermied gophers, housed in Torrington, Alberta. It’s strange, of course, but there will be a field day for those who love all things kitschy. The gophers are dressed in miniature clothes and posed to express some situations, giving the place a bit of a fairy tale feel–which, by the way, takes us to our next attraction….

6. Be Mesmerized By The Enchanted Forest

The Enchanted Forest in British Columbia is ideal if you’re travelling with the whole family–but to be honest, the magical attraction will also be a fantastic time for adults. The park features numerous statues based on characters from fairy tales, as well as the highest treehouse in the world. General admission for adults is $12 and childcare is $9.

7. Go Whale Watching

Watching the whales can make you feel like a few other things at one with nature. British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland are the most popular spots for this practice in Canada. Anyone who goes on a Candian whale-watching trip will probably catch sight of belugas, humpbacks, and/or orcas, and will certainly gain a greater understanding of the oceans ‘ strong and enigmatic nature.

8. Ski Whistler

Visiting Canada is almost a shame and not doing any kind of snow sporting activity. Skiers (and snowboarders) of all skill levels, in particular, will have a wonderful time in Whistler, probably the most famous snow sport destination in the world. Masters can fly down the courses, while beginners can take one or two lessons before setting out on the easier routes. And you can relax by the fireplace at the Whistler Blackcomb Resort after spending a day on the slopes, perhaps with a hot drink in hand.
