Numerous instances of unethical behaviour by Uber drivers in India in recent years have sparked serious worries about data privacy and passenger safety. These occurrences were made public on social media when the harassed consumers posted their experiences.

The Uber driver enrages the customer by charging more and making a gender-specific comment:

A recent instance of a driver asking a female customer to pay more before she arrived at the venue is making the rounds online. In the Uber discussion, the driver made a gender-specific, offensive remark after the woman refused to pay the additional amount.

Khozy Bharmal, an X user, addressed a problem brought about by an Uber driver on social media by posting images of the conversation between the driver and the female passenger. He tagged Uber support and requested that they take the appropriate actions to protect women’s safety and dignity.

The user took to the social media platform X and wrote,

Please note the behaviour of your driver partner !! Hope appropriate action shall be taken

He tagged @Uber_India, @Uber_Support @Uber in the tweet.

In order to get to the woman’s location and pick her up more quickly, the driver requests an additional Rs 20 in the chat screenshots. He requests that she terminate the ride when she declines to pay more.

Instead, the driver declines the woman’s request to cancel the ride. He responds as follows to the woman’s request to accept the charge displayed in the app:

ladki log bahut kanjoos hoti hai (Girls are very miserly)

Uber needs to implement more stringent safety protocols.

According to Uber, company has procedures in place to handle complaints and takes these kinds of situations seriously. But these events show that more stringent precautions are required, such as:

Improved Driver Screening: Putting in place stricter background checks to guarantee the reliability of drivers.
Quick Complaint Resolution: Putting in place a more adaptable mechanism to quickly handle passenger grievances.
Using technology to keep an eye on rides in real time for any anomalies is known as real-time monitoring.
To preserve public confidence and protect the welfare of its users, ride-hailing services like Uber must place a high priority on strict safety procedures and prompt action against wrongdoing.
