A Vande Bharat train that looked modern, clean and well-maintained in a viral video took an unexpected turn when the camera revealed garbage left behind by passengers. The footage has triggered a strong debate online about civic sense and responsible behaviour in public spaces.
The video was shared by Instagram influencer Sunil R (@maskedguyslife). In the clip, he first highlights the positive aspects of the Vande Bharat experience — newspapers being provided to passengers, food being served, and staff regularly collecting used trays and waste. The train appears organised and spotless through most of the video.
The Problem Revealed
Towards the end of the video, however, the camera captures litter scattered under seats and in different parts of the coach. This is despite the presence of dustbins and regular waste collection by staff. The contrast between the well-maintained train and the garbage left by some passengers stood out sharply.
The video has garnered nearly 8 million views and attracted thousands of comments.
Public Reaction

Creator’s Clarification
As the video gained traction, Sunil clarified that his post was not meant to criticise Vande Bharat or Indian Railways. In fact, he said the opposite was true.
“This reel is not against Vande Bharat or Indian Railways. Quite the opposite,” he wrote.
He praised the train for being modern, comfortable and well maintained, and noted that staff regularly collected trays and garbage. With dustbins available and waste being collected, he argued that passengers leaving rubbish on seats, in seat pockets or on the floor was difficult to justify.
Sunil also pointed out that littering remains a problem across several public spaces in India — including roads, railway stations, beaches and tourist destinations. While acknowledging that not everyone behaves the same way, he said ignoring the issue would not help solve it.
He further argued that as India invests in modern trains, stations, infrastructure and public services, civic responsibility needs to improve alongside these developments.
“Showing a problem isn’t hating the country. Wanting better isn’t being anti-India. If we can demand world-class facilities, we should be capable of respecting them like they’re ours,” he wrote.
