Mahindra has been showering praise on the Indian badminton squad for their recent win at the Thomas Cup. He celebrated the victory by saying, “Apna Time Aa Gaya (Our time has come),” reflecting on how he, despite growing up, was enamoured by Indonesia’s top badminton players.

Anand Mahindra, the chairman of the Mahindra Group, celebrated India’s historic win in the Thomas Cup with a message of congratulations on Twitter. He expressed his excitement for the country’s triumph, mentioning how he grew up admiring Indonesian badminton stars. The outstanding performance of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy was a key factor in India’s win, earning the team its first-ever gold medal. Anand’s message was one of many that poured in to celebrate the remarkable achievement.

Anand posted this on his Twitter congratulating the champion,

“This is the dawn of an era of Indian ascendancy in this sport; a sport that’s always been loved & played throughout our country. I grew up reading about the Thomas Cup & titans like Indonesia’s Rudy Hartono who dominated it. Today we swept Indonesia away…Apna Time Aa Gaya.”

To that, Chirag replied,

“Thank You Sir! I’ve booked an XUV700 recently hope I can get it soon!”

Here comes the funny part, Anand replied to that comment with,

“Since that makes the XUV7OO the Choice Of Champions we will have to work extra hard to get it to you ASAP. @vijaynakra I hope you see this! (By the way, I’ve ordered one for my wife & I’m still in Q! ) Sadly, the global supply chain disruptions are plaguing all car companies)”

Online commenters applauded his candour and the manner he mocked the athlete while remaining composed in his discussion of the situation. This week, he also gained notoriety for his caustic reply to a Twitter user who asked if his company could build cars for Rs 10,000. After India won the Thomas Cup, Chirag had previously replied to Air India’s tweet of congratulations by amusingly praying that the Indian team would have a chartered trip home.
