Following engineer Atul Subhash’s suicide by hanging at his home in Bengaluru, the hashtag #JusticeForAtulSubhash went viral on social media and is currently the most popular trend in the nation. Numerous people have come forward to share their own horrible experiences as cries for justice for the 34-year-old have intensified.
Journalist and men’s rights advocate Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj shared a series of distressing letters from her email, demonstrating the volume of help requests she has received.
“I am getting suicidal thoughts”
One man came to Bhardwaj in distress after his wife had brought a dowry case against him. “Then, ma’am, I find myself in that predicament. My wife filed separate dowry and divorce cases. The judge ignored what I had to say when I filed an AB for a dowry case. She is requesting that my wife be given the house, which was my parents’ sole residence and is not in my name.
“Thought to commit suicide at one stage” :
“#Mentoo” was the caption for a number of screenshots that Bhardwaj shared. The man in the screenshot said, “Not for attention or anything! I also no longer have any expectations of anyone! I wanted to let you know that I am among the many Atul Subhash who had considered suicide at some point during their legal terror strike days! Some do, while some are unable to because of their elderly parents’ responsibilities.
“I don’t want to commit suicide”
Another man said, “Like Atul, I am dealing with a similar legal matter. I’ve been divorced from my wife for the past five years, and I’ve been fighting a fake case for the past two. My wife’s brother asked me for one crore three years ago. They have now filed a maintenance action against her, claiming that she would not file for divorce and that she also needs monthly maintenance.
“My wife has brainwashed my 8-year-old daughter into believing that I am a bad father,” he continued. My parents are reliant on me and are between the ages of 77 and 75, thus I don’t want to end my life.
“My brother was also driven to take his own life” :
Another story about a man who posted about his brother surfaced in the interim. “My brother, like Atul Subhash, was motivated to end his life because of the intolerable abuse he received from his wife, Shikha Awasthi. He killed himself on December 27, 2023, since he could no longer stand her abuse,” the post stated.
