While making a film, Producers make sure that they show that best location on the screen to hypnotise the audience without spending too much on location.
Shooting in prime locations is not only costlier but also requires a lot of permissions granted from authorities for respective locations to shoot. Hence they shoot in best alternative locations and give us the delusion that they shot in the place which we all love.

Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani:
The Ranbir Kapoor starter showed us that the film was shooting in Manali but in reality, the shooting took place in Gulmarg, Kashmir.
Fanaa:
The filmmakers of the film fanaa decided to film scene in the Tatra Mountains in southern Poland instead of Kashmir for those mountain scenes.
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam:
Everyone knows this film as this romantic film is a landmark in Bollywood. But, the views where Ajay and Aishwariya came to Italy to find Salman were filmed in Budapest.
Dabangg:
The film which was set in Bihar was actually shot in Maharashtra. They renovated tiny town of Wai in Maharashtra as Laalgunj.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan:
Despite the background of the movie is in Pakistan, in reality, the makers shot the entire film in Kashmir. Sonmarg, Zoji La and Thajiwas glacier were the chosen location.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum:
Chandni Chowk shown in the film was recreated in a studio at the Film City of Mumbai.
Chennai Express:
Major filming of this movie took place in Goa and in Maharashtra. Kalyan Junction railway station was recreated in Vasco Da Gama Railway Station.
Mary Kom:
The biopic on the boxer of the same name portrayed parts of Manali and Himachal Pradesh as Manipur.
Sarabjit:
The makers of the film recreated Pakistani jail in Mumbai as the film was based on Sarabjit Singh who was kept in a Pakistani jail as a suspected spy.
Student Of The Year:
The famous school of the film was located in India. The makers took external shots of Kasiga School, Dehradun and used it in the film. It was also shot in Kashmir and Thailand.
Bombay Velvet:
For this film, the old Mumbai was recreated in sets located in Sri Lanka.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai:
The film is another Bollywood classic. However, Wenlock Downs in Ooty was used as the summer camp that Anjali goes to in Shimla.
Phantom:
The makers of the film filmed in Lebanon, Beirut and Kfardebian to portray Syria.
