There have been times when Bollywood has taken inspiration to create their final product from any possible path. These aren’t news! Whether it’s novels, plays or even Hollywood movies, the Hindi cinema makers aren’t holding back.

And in a bid to introduce the famous international content to India, in some circumstances, Bollywood has taken a step too far. It is only in recent times that we have begun to purchase Hollywood film rights and produce official remakes. Until then, from Hollywood stories, we laid low and received high. Here’s a look at 11 Bollywood movies which are in fact remakes of Hollywood movies:

1. Judwaa – Twin dragons

Jackie Chan starred in Twin Dragons, about two identical twins separated by birth to meet only at a later stage in life. It was too thrilling a story for Bollywood to slip on. So much so, that we had one with Salman Khan as the 1997 lead and then another, more recent, remake of the same movie with Varun Dhawan playing the twins.

2. Krrish – Paycheck

Although Koi’s next part is also being .. Paycheck is taking big inspiration from Mil Gaya, Krrish. The Hollywood movie follows a plot similar to the Hollywood flick. While it doesn’t draw the whole plot, its Hollywood equivalent takes inspiration from a story outline.

3. Kyo Ki… Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta – Liar Liar

Liar Liar is one of Jim Carey’s most famous movies, in which he plays a lawyer who loses his ability to lie, leading to a comedy of errors. Bollywood was highly influenced by the idea and wanted to create their own film-Kyo Ki. Nahin Bolta the Key Jhuth. The lead in this one, Govinda, played a lawyer’s character and battled a similar problem.

4. Partner – Hitch

Not long ago, Will Smith starred in Hitch as a relationship counsellor. And, Bollywood had already done a remake within two years of its release. Hitch’s Hindi version was called Partner and saw Salman Khan playing the lead, while Govinda was the on-screen guru who took the advice.

5. Fool N Final – Snatch

Fool N Final did not perform very well at the Box Office, even after bringing the script from a foreign country. The Bollywood film derives its influence from the British film Snatch. As well as characterization it fits a similar plot.

6. Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai – My best friend’s wedding

Well, one can recognise the copied essence of this Bollywood movie only from the title. Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai follows a pattern similar to Wedding with My Best Friend.

7. Salaam-e-Ishq – Love, Actually

Salaam-E-Ishq takes great inspiration from Love, in reality as it follows the story of multiple couples who have an influence on each other’s life in different ways – much like the former ones.

8. Dil Bole Haddippa – She’s the man

Dil Bole Hadippa sounds like an original novel, where a girl dresses up as a guy just to get her favourite sport played. The plot, however, has been ripped off from She’s The Man in Hollywood, where the protagonist aspires to be a soccer player but is bound by her gender.

9. Dostana – Now I pronounce you Chuck and Larry

A new chapter in Bollywood was YRF’s Dostana. The idea wasn’t original for the film though. Now I pronounce you Chuck Hollywood and Larry is where the Bollywood movie gets its inspiration from.

10. Bunty Aur Babli – Bonnie and Clyde

2005 Bollywood hit movie Bunty Aur Babli takes influence from all-time Hollywood hit Bonnie and Clyde. The famous Bonnie and Clyde are now recognised by the Indian public for the film’s global success.

11. Tees Maar Khan – After the Fox

Tees Maar Khan’s creators have obviously always been influenced by the work of Peter Seller and it has seen in their adaptation of his hit film After the Fox. The plot is exactly the same as Seller is setting up a whole village just to conduct a heist. Much like Seller, Akshay Kumar plays the lead in this one as a master of disguises.
