In addition to taking the lives of 241 innocent people and others nearby the crash site, it also robbed families of their hopes, plans, and aspirations, leaving them inutterly devastated. The Baxi sisters are the subject of one of the many incomplete stories and final recollections of those who perished that have emerged online. On social media, you may have seen images of two sisters with their “nani,” but the joyful frame is now accompanied by depressing information.

The tragic Ahmedabad plane disaster claimed the lives of two sisters, Dhir Baxi and Heer Baxi, who were in their 20s and had a bright future ahead of them. To meet their ‘nani’, they joyfully travelled to India. But instead of being a joyful reunion, the vacation has now become tragic for their family. Ishan Baxi, their cousin who resides in Ahmedabad, spoke candidly with the PA news agency about the incident.
The Baxi girls came to Ahmedabad to surprise their grandmother, Ishan disclosed. He remembered that Heer and Dhir were both intelligent and had their own interests in mind. Dhir was a fashion designer, and Heer was a project manager with a strong interest in money. The esteemed Parsons Paris Art and Design School was where she had studied. Ishan emphasised that the sisters’ shared aspirations were to succeed and travel the world with their parents.
Ishan Baxi reveals that their grandma feels “guilt” about the death of their sister:
In addition to visiting Rajkot-Vadodara to obtain their elders’ blessings, Dhir and Heer Baxi came to surprise their grandma, Elaben, on her 75th birthday. They were the daughters of Kosha Bakshi and Chetan Bakshi, who owns a finance company in the United Kingdom. But while everyone is in shock by the loss of their little girls, their grandmother is feeling bad about it. He shared how the death of the Baxi sister has surprised everyone, saying:
“Right now, no one is able to come (to) terms because they both came here just to celebrate grandma’s birthday, but, see, the tragedy – they came, they celebrated, and they both left the world; everything vanished right in front of our eyes.”
How did the Ahmedabad Air India plane disaster occur?
On June 12, 2025, at noon, Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flight AI171 departed from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad and crashed minutes later at a neighbouring dormitory. There was one survivor from the tragic Air India flight, and the catastrophe claimed over 265 lives in total. Several organisations have begun their investigations into the case, while the injured are receiving treatment at the adjacent Civil Hospital.
