According to a poll of 540 women, they spend slightly more than $10,000 on shaving goods and services over the course of their lives. This figure is shocking, therefore it’s no surprise that more women are opting to leave their body hair alone these days. It’s even better to see celebrities who don’t shave, as this helps to normalize the practice and encourages other ladies to do the same.

“I’m comfortable with [body hair] whether I’m a tomboy or a rebel, so why shouldn’t you be?”
“As much as I see myself and other ladies getting chastised for having body hair, I don’t think it’s fair. God help me if I’m not waxed and oiled at all times. But what if I told you about something quite cool (at least, that’s what I think it is)? When you Google ‘armpit,’ you’ll see a picture of a girl with a mildly hairy armpit. Yes, absolutely.”

“How I portray myself, what I do with my makeup, body hair, hair, or anything else aesthetically, will always be driven by how I feel, not by what others think. I haven’t done it before since I was in a relationship and had been taught to believe that shaving would be beneficial to both sides. But I really don’t want to shave! ‘Why did I bother?’ I wondered. It’s been a really uninspiring realization; there’s no drama here. It’s simply there. I’m hoping it’s on its way to normalcy, and it’ll never be anything you notice.”

“It’s just a matter of personal taste.” That said, could we please stop talking about pits?”

  • “I made the decision in early adolescence, perhaps when I was 14 and all the females in my school, none of whom had any hair on their bodies, began shaving because it was ‘grown-up.’ Whatever. It seemed like a waste of time, a uniformity that repulsed me (even at 14 years old, I was a fierce feminist)”.
  • “As for my legs, I’ve never shaven, so the fuzziness isn’t awful. And because I’m fair, my hair is really pale and sparse, but if you look closely, you can see it, especially when my legs are wet (like after a bath).”
  • “My son is aware that I have body hair, just as he is aware that my spouse does. Body hair is quite normal and healthy. Body hair in mammals has some really interesting patterns, and I explain to him that it traps pheromones, protects glands, and highlights ‘special’ regions of the body that carry pheromones and glands. Those parts are in charge of assisting reproductive actions.

“Some people think it’s nasty, especially on girls, but it’s something that every human being does. It’s only natural. “Forget about it.”

When you shave, how often do you shave? Do you put a lot of effort or money into it? Are there any parts of your body that you would rather not shave?
