A film crew of at least a dozen people, consisting of a director and a production team, is required to make a movie. We are the ones who make touching stories an on-screen reality. There are some films, though, in which the work of the lead actors stands out in such a way that the success of the film seems to be almost all due to their talent. That’s Joaquin Phoenix’s scenario.

1. The reason behind the scar on his lip

You’ve certainly noticed it since it’s one of his most unique facial features. Although you may believe that after an accident, surgery, or illness the scar appeared, the fact is that Joaquin was born with it. In his career, the scar followed him.

2. His hometown is San Juan, Puerto Rico.

He is of Puerto Rican descent and was born on October 28, 1974. He is the third of five siblings and the son of a pair of artists who at the time moved across Central and South America. Joaquin lived in his native San Juan for three years.

3. Throughout his career, he has appeared in more than 30 films.

His acting career started at the age of 12 in 1986. He’s been starring in films like SpaceCamp, Gladiator, Her, Walk the Line and many others since then.

4. He’s been vegan since he was 3.

The father of Joaquin was vegetarian, so from an early age, he followed the way of life. He currently works with animal rights-protecting groups and has also undertaken previous efforts to raise awareness of animal abuse.

5. It took him 4 months to achieve the Joker’s laugh.

The laughter of the character is filled with pain and anxiety as it is motivated by an epileptic disorder. Phoenix thoroughly studied people’s behaviour with this symptom for months until he was able to perfectly execute the special laugh.
