A couple travelling on the Vande Bharat train on June 18 discovered a cockroach in the meal they were served, amid recent stories of the finding of dead animals in food items, including a centipede in ice cream, a snake in a meal provided at the college mess, a mouse in chocolate syrup, and a frog in a wafer packet.

The incident was published on social media by the couple’s nephew, who demanded that the vendor be held accountable. “My uncle and aunt were travelling from Bhopal to Agra in Vande Bharat today, June 18, 24. They received “COCKROACH” from @IRCTCofficial in their meals. In an X post, the user stated, “Please take strict action against the vendor and make sure this would not happen again @RailMinIndia @ AshwiniVaishnaw.”

In response to the post, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) stated that the “concerned service provider has been imposed with a suitable penalty.”

“Mister, We sincerely regret the trip you experienced. The relevant service provider has been hit with a reasonable penalty after the matter was given serious consideration. IRCTC replied to the tweet, saying, “We have also increased the production and logistical monitoring.

A cockroach has already been discovered in food served on Vande Bharat. When travelling from Kamlapati to Jabalpur junction in February of this year, a passenger named Dr. Shubhendu Keshari discovered a dead cockroach in the lunch provided by IRCTC.

A food vendor was fined Rs 25,000 by the IRCTC in July 2023 when a customer on the Bhopal-Delhi Vande Bharat discovered a cockroach in their meals.
