There was no way to tell that Swami Sivananda was 125 years old when he walked barefoot into the Durbar Hall to receive his Padma Shri award and then bowed down to prostrate in front of the dignitaries. Take a look at the video of him receiving the medal from the President before we go any further.

Swami Sivananda hails from Kashi, and after losing his parents at the age of six, he “made the extremely critical decision of how to live his life.” He was born in the undivided India district of Sylhet in 1896.

He went on to become a Yoga luminary in the country, and he is a firm believer in “simple life.” Swami Sivananda has always stated that he eats extremely plain, oil-free, spice-free meals. Rice and boiling daal are his favourite foods (lentil stew). He also refuses to eat milk or fruits because he considers them to be posh meals. “I try to live a basic, controlled life. I consume just boiled foods with no oil or spices, rice, and boiled daal (lentil stew) with a few green chilies “In 2016, he told the AFP news agency.
