Urban transportation saw a significant transformation with the introduction of India’s metro rail, which gave millions of people a reliable, effective, and clean mode of transportation. The Delhi Metro’s 2002 debut marked the beginning of what has since spread to several large cities. The metro is more than just a mode of transit for Delhi’s citizens. It presently serves as a backbone that ensures timeliness and cost while connecting the city’s numerous areas.
Many films on social media give us a different picture of the situation, despite the Delhi Police’s strict rules against unacceptable behaviour in the metro, littering, and public irritation. A video of a man eating eggs and drinking informally inside a moving Delhi Metro train recently went viral on social media. Social media users were incensed by the footage, and many began to doubt Delhi Police’s policies. The Delhi Police have now addressed the widely shared video.

Video of a man eating eggs and drinking inside the Metro went popular on social media:
The man, dressed in a brown t-shirt and beige shorts, was seen seated in a typical metro carriage in the widely shared video.
But when he pulled a boiled egg from his knapsack and peeled it using the train’s metal handrail, everyone was taken aback. Many users were horrified by a motion that showed a lack of hygiene.
He then seemed to have a drink—allegedly alcohol—while on the road.
The man in the viral video was taken into custody by Delhi Police:
As the video quickly gained popularity, social media users’ reactions ranged from hilarity to concern. Delhi, however, responded to the popular video right away. The Delhi Police official account posted the video on X, formerly known as Twitter, with the following caption:
Eggs & “Alcohol” in the Metro? That’s not breakfast – that’s a Breach !! Break the rules, Face the consequences, Rules aren’t suggestions: They’re the law. #DPUpdates
Akash Kumar, a 25-year-old inhabitant of Burari, north Delhi, is the accused. The police claim that the accused admitted to his wrongdoing and are pursuing charges against him in accordance with section 59 of the DMRC Act. However, the man claimed that he was filming himself drinking the apple juice Appy Fizz rather than booze. He said in the video that the police posted:
I did the wrong thing. I request everyone not to do any such thing. Today I have to face the law because of what I did. I seek forgiveness.

What was the response to the incident on social media?
Social media users reacted to the video with a mix of fear and humour, however it is still unclear whether the man himself took the video as a social media joke or if another traveler did. A lot of people pointed out that it’s also improper to imitate drinking alcohol in the subway. Others expressed disapproval at the lax security regulations. Check out a few of the replies:

Incidents like this on the Delhi Metro, meanwhile, serve as stark reminders that preserving order requires both infrastructure and public cooperation. Commuters still have a need to respect public space and adhere to basic standards of behaviour, even if the Delhi Police and DMRC are striving to address these offences.
