Dev Patel

Dev Patel, the Oscar-nominated actor, steps into the realm of directing with his debut film, “Monkey Man,” set for theatrical release by Universal Pictures on April 5. The action-packed revenge narrative, produced by Jordan Peele through his Monkeypaw Productions, unveiled its first trailer on Friday.

In the film, Patel takes on the role of Kid, an anonymous individual scraping together a modest living in an underground fight club. Night after night, donning a gorilla mask, he endures brutal beatings from more popular fighters for monetary gain. Inspired by the Hindu deity Hanuman, the movie delves into themes of vengeance.

The plot unfolds as Kid, harbouring years of suppressed rage, discovers a means to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. Fueled by childhood trauma, his mysteriously scarred hands become the catalyst for an explosive campaign of retribution against those who robbed him of everything.

The trailer offers a glimpse of intense action reminiscent of a “John Wick” film. Patel’s character embarks on a quest for bloody revenge, employing firearms, knives, and sheer brutality against his adversaries. In a striking scene, he ruthlessly stabs a man through the neck while gripping a knife between his teeth.
