Diljit Dosanjh, a Punjabi musician and worldwide celebrity, shocked his audience during his Hyderabad performance by changing the words of his well-known songs to comply with government regulations. He replaced the word “alcohol” in his song Lemonade with “Coke,” which drew praise from fans and a response from Coca-Cola India.
Modified Lyrics in Compliance with Government Directives:
During the concert, Diljit was told by the Telangana government not to use his songs to promote violence, drugs, or alcohol. Diljit changed his lyrics in an innovative way to comply with this. For example, he substituted “Coke’ch lemonade” for “daaru’ch lemonade” and “5 tara theke” for “5 tara hotel.” Similarly, he left the crowd in stitches when he substituted “Coke de datt pattne” for “bottlaan de datt patten” in his hit song Pehle Lalkare.
Coca-Cola Reaction:
Coca-Cola India took notice of the light-hearted change. In response to a widely shared video of the event, the company’s official Instagram account added to the frenzy by posting the comment, “Chautha kaam twade gaane japne [Fourth task is worshipping your songs]!” along with a heart and smiley emoji.
Diljit’s Perspective on the Limitations:
Despite following the government’s instructions, Diljit didn’t hesitate to voice his misgivings. He asked why Indian entertainers were subjected to such scrutiny, pointing out that international performers were treated more leniently. Diljit made sure the crowd loved the event by retaining his trademark charm and wit in spite of this.
In addition to providing fans with entertainment, the widely shared footage of his performance have spurred discussions on the limitations placed on Indian musicians.
