Until he was the world’s most powerful man, Donald Trump was Manhattan’s most powerful man, a registered billionaire and a fixture on the social scene. And, before he was married to First Lady Melania, he tried his best to court many well-known ladies, from the film industry and so on.
Many of those people he has publicly acknowledged seeking to court, while others have called out the Donald on his cringe-worthy, usually Trump dating tactics — Brooke Shields being the bunch’s newest.
Here, we list all the women Donald Trump has tried (and failed) before the trial and the sometimes humiliating explanations why they never did.
1. Christie Brinkley
Speaking to Porter magazine, Brinkley remembered a period in the late 1980s when Donald Trump, a “smart,” tried to ask her out when she was dating Billy Joel and Donald was still married to Ivana Trump.
“I was at the Plaza Hotel one day. My phone rings and this guy goes, ‘Hey, Christie, it’s The Donald.’ I’m like, ‘Hi, Billy,’ because at the time I was dating Billy [Joel],” she said. “Then the voice goes, ‘Oh, no. It’s The Donald!’ So I say, ‘What’s up?’ And he says, ‘I hear you leave tomorrow for Aspen. I’m leaving. I’d like to give you a ride on my private jet.’ So I respond, ‘Thank you, then I’ve already arranged my flights.’ ‘So cancel them!’ was his reaction, and I say, ‘No thank you. I’m going with friends.’ I knew he was married, and there he wanted me to go on his flights.
2. Brooke Shields
The actress Brooke Shields disclosed the one time the future president asked her to host Andy Cohen in the 1990’s. Brooke wasn’t shy about digressing just what Trump said to her — and it’s just deserving of a joke.
“He called me—I was on the scene doing a movie—and he called me right after he got a divorce and said… ‘I really think we should date because you’re the sweetheart of America and I’m the wealthiest guy in America, and people will love it.'”
Shields said she’s got a boyfriend to get Trump off her back, and she doesn’t have many regrets from the way she told the incident.
3. Salma Hayek
Apparently, Salma Hayek wasn’t careful about the time she turned Trump down in the 1990s, until her relationship with Melania. During an interview on The Daily Show With Trevor Noah, Hayek said that when she first met Trump, she was at an event with her boyfriend and he was nice at first until he kept calling her and asking her out. As she refused, he shocked her with a comment we can only imagine that Trump will utter and take it seriously.
Trump said of Hayek’s partner, allegedly, “He’s not good enough for you. He’s not significant, you have to go out with me [instead].”
So, he’d essentially begged her to cheat? How President-in-Office.
4. Princess Diana
Although the late Princess never spoke publicly of Trump before her death in 1997, BBC TV presenter Selina Scott said Trump reportedly gave “the creeps” to Diana because, according to The Sun, he regularly delivered bouquets of flowers to her house after her divorce from Charles.
And, in the months after her death, Trump said during an interview with radio host Howard Stern he “should have killed Princess Diana “— but he also joked that he should have had Diana take an HIV test before sleeping with her, according to The Sun.
5. Candice Bergen
Nominated for the Academy-Award and ex-model Candice Bergen * dished on the single date she went on with Trump back in her college days when they were both just 18 years old and hadn’t much to tell about the now-President.
She said her date contained “no physical contact whatsoever” on Watch What Happens Live *, and that she was home and in bed early.
The worst part; Trump was described by Bergen as “a good-looking guy … and a shower.”
She wasn’t shy about the date, dishing all on the show while also offering a sweater for ‘Free Melania.’ Ouch. Ouch.
6. Emma Thompson
Thompson has told a Swedish news outlet that Trump called her in her trailer when she was filming Primary Colors in LA, according to Vanity Fair.
Trump first asked if she needed any rooms in Trump Tower before the tumultuous waters became crystal clear. He said to her, “I think we should have dinner sometime,” to which she responded hurriedly that she would come back to him — and obviously never.
She did digress though that she regrets not only going for the fun of it, and later told Vanity Fair she would have been able to “do something [to repair Trump]” if she had gone. The probability that someone would do that is pretty weak, Emma, but we think that might have been.
