Fans are divided on Doja Cat’s 2024 Met Gala outfit; some believe she should be “banned” from the event. Upon arriving at the Met Gala red carpet last year, where Karl Lagerfield’s cat, Choupette, was honoured, many were excited to see what Doja Cat will wear to this year’s event at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
For the ‘The Garden of Time’ theme, which was based on a J.G. Ballard short tale from 1962, and this year’s exhibit topic, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” the singer chose to dress in an oversized t-shirt that was wet and appeared like it was right out of the shower.
Doja appears to have come straight from the bathroom onto the carpet in her first clothing, with one towel wrapped around her torso and another on her head. She added makeup that appeared to run down her face to finish the look, yet she still had time to put on some platform heels.
In the second image, Doja—full name Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini—is seen taking off her hair towel to reveal her bleached blonde hair and is dressed in what appears to be an oversized t-shirt drenched in water. People quickly flocked to social media to offer their opinions on the appearance.
“If this is her only outfit, then don’t invite Doja Cat next year,” a user on X said. Anna Wintour, pay attention. “Did you not ban her from the Met Gala the previous year?” “I fear she won’t be invited again,” said someone else.
“If this is the final look, Doja cat should be banned from the #metgala,” remarked a third person. “Doja Cat – I would’ve sent her home and banned her from all future Met Galas for wearing this nonsense 0/10,” a fourth decision was made. Some, though, adored the appearance.
“I know that people will make flowers, but my favourite flower is the most common flower, cotton,” she remarked. “I decided to design a white t-shirt since it felt extremely poetic and because white t-shirts are classic.
“And since I don’t particularly enjoy blending in, I figured it wouldn’t blend in too much. We decided to go with this. You really can’t disagree with that, is you?
Doja emphasised that her team had applied hair gel all over her body, so she was “actually wet” while sporting the look. She made up her mind: “I’m acting. Tonight is a show.”
