She remembered that at the time, she “couldn’t really talk about it.”

“I think I could talk about it and use it for good if I was going through that right now.”

“But I’m not sure if it was because of my age, the social environment, or the fact that I’m black, from Cheltenham, from a low-income family, and I have to really work twice as hard at everything I do to get a seat at the table,” the singer-songwriter stated.

“People called [her] the most hurtful and ignorant and horrible names on the planet,” she claimed after she had achieved popularity.

When Louis implied that Robert Pattinson’s admirers thought she was “unworthy” of dating him, she nodded in agreement.

“I think they considered that he should definitely be with someone white and blonde and not me,” FKA continued. “He was their white Prince Charming.”

She reminisced, saying, “During that period, whatever I did, people would find pictures of monkeys and replicate the same actions with monkeys.”

Elaborating on the situation, the singer clarified, “For instance, if I wore a red dress, they would locate a picture of a monkey wearing a red dress, or if I was on a bike, they would discover an image of a monkey on a bike.”

The bullying took a toll on her, leaving a “massive, dysmorphic effect” on her mental well-being for approximately six months to a year. She disclosed, “Every time I saw my pictures, I would think, ‘Gosh, I look like a monkey and people are going to say that I look like a monkey, so I need to really try and hide this monkey-ness that I have because otherwise people are going to come for me about it.’ It’s essentially bullying and it does affect you psychologically, it’s really sad.”

She emphasized, “And for everyone to be aware, I now embrace and love my appearance. I am very confident, and I feel genuinely good.”

However, she acknowledged, “But it was profoundly unjust during that time when I was made to feel incredibly self-conscious and unattractive.” Reflecting on that period, FKA admitted, “That period was a lot.”
