In 2001, in recognition of her contributions to the country, she also earned the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour in India. She is just the second singer to win this prize after M. Subbulakshmi, which only serves to emphasise this. Along with the renowned honours mentioned above, she has earned a great deal more.
