Ravindra Kaushik Love Story: Since spies spend more than half of their lives in hiding, most of us are ignorant of what they do. Spies and undercover agents face many dangers in their profession; they strive to avoid detection, and some even give their lives in defence of their country. However, the general public barely notices them. The love tale of spy Ravindra Kaushik demonstrates that love has no bounds.

Ravindra Kaushik Love Story

You must be aware of the dangers if you have seen the Bollywood film Raazi, which tells the story of an Indian spy operating in Pakistan. RAW Agent Love Story started from there.

Ravindra Kaushik was an undercover RAW agent stationed in Pakistan in real life. Until his arrest and death in captivity, he continued to be a spy.

How did Ravindra Kaushik become a spy and who was he?

On April 11, 1952, Ravindra Kaushik was born into a Brahmin family in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan.
As a teenager, he enjoyed performing in theatre, and the RAW saw him when he was doing it.
Kaushik was recruited by RAW at the age of 23, and under the alias Nabi Ahmed Shakir, he was dispatched to Pakistan on a special mission. In India, all of his records were erased.

  • It is thought that Kaushik learnt Urdu during his training and became familiar with Pakistani geography and Muslim holy books.
  • He earned his LLB from Karachi University while he was in Pakistan. He joined the Pakistani army as a commissioned officer and was subsequently elevated to the position of Major.
  • He is thought to have provided vital information to the Indian defence forces between 1978 and 1983 while going under the moniker “The Black Tiger.” In Pakistan, Ravindra was living a different life.

Ravindra Kaushik, an Indian RAW agent known as “Black Tiger,” infiltrated Pakistan’s army under the alias Nabi Ahmed Shakir. While undercover, he fell in love with Amanat, a Pakistani woman, and married her, keeping his true identity a secret even from her. They had a child, but Kaushik’s cover was blown in 1983, leading to his arrest and eventual death in a Pakistani prison in 2001. Their love story, marked by secrecy and sacrifice, remains a poignant tale of devotion amidst espionage.

You probably want to know if Amanat, Ravindra Kaushik’s wife, was aware that her husband was a spy.

Sources claim that even after they were married, Amanat was ignorant that her spouse was a spy. Areeb Ahmed Khan was the son of the couple.

How was Ravindra apprehended?

During a questioning in Pakistan, another RAW agent allegedly unintentionally blew off his cover. In 1983, he was apprehended and given the death penalty. His sentence was lowered to life in prison.

Kaushik stayed in Pakistani detention till his death in 2001.

He reportedly wrote covert messages to his Indian family when he was incarcerated in Pakistan. However, the Indian government refused to acknowledge them.

Kaushik was imprisoned in Mianwali for 16 years after being subjected to severe torture for two years at an interrogation facility in Sialkot. In 2001, he reportedly received a diagnosis of heart problems and pulmonary TB. However, he was left to perish since no one could save him. In the New Central Multan Jail, he subsequently passed away.

What became of his child and wife?

Some sources claim that nobody is aware of his wife Amanat’s or their child’s whereabouts.

Ravindra Kaushik, an Indian RAW agent known as “Black Tiger,” married Amanat, a Pakistani woman, while undercover in Pakistan as Nabi Ahmed Shakir. Their marriage, kept secret from his true identity, resulted in a child, but Kaushik’s arrest in 1983 ended their life together.

What Happened To Ravindra Kaushik Family

After Ravindra Kaushik’s arrest in 1983, his family in India faced significant emotional and financial hardship. His father, JM Kaushik, a retired Indian Air Force officer, died of shock and heart failure upon learning of Ravindra’s death in 2001. His mother, Amladevi, made repeated pleas to the Indian government for his release, writing to leaders like Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, but received no substantial response.

She died in 2006. The family received a modest pension from the government—initially ₹500 per month, later increased to ₹2,000—until Amladevi’s death, after which it stopped. Ravindra’s younger brother, Rajeshwarnath Kaushik, and nephew, Vikram Vashisth, both based in Jaipur, sought official recognition for his sacrifice but expressed frustration over the government’s lack of acknowledgment or support. In Pakistan, the fate of Ravindra’s wife, Amanat, and their child remains largely unknown, with reports suggesting their son, Areeb Ahmed Khan, may have died around 2012–2013.
