At the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, a Jharkhand family appears to have found their missing member after a 27-year search. Gangasagar Yadav, an Aghori monk, was discovered after going missing from Dhanbad in 1998.

When family members during the Kumbh Mela saw a man who looked like Gangasagar and sent a picture to the family back home, the family’s hopes were revived. Gangasagar’s brother, Murli Yadav, his sons, Kamlesh and Vimlesh, and his wife, Dhanwa Devi, hurried to the Mela after spotting his knee scar, large teeth, and forehead injury.

But Gangasagar, a 65-year-old “Aghori” now known as Baba Rajkumar, would not acknowledge his family or his previous existence. He denied any association with Gangasagar Yadav, claiming to be from Varanasi.

The family is nonetheless certain of his genuine identity in spite of his denials. They are requesting a DNA test to substantiate their link and have notified the Kumbh Mela police.

Murli Yadav declared, “We will wait until the Kumbh Mela is over.” “If the test doesn’t match, we will apologise to Baba Rajkumar.” Dhanwa Devi, his wife, is begging the authorities to assist in getting my husband back with his family.

We were celebrating my younger brother-in-law’s wedding in our village twenty-seven years ago. He said he was planning to purchase a saree for the event before departing during the celebrations. He never came back. We recently saw him in a video that a relative sent us from the Kumbh Mela. She insisted that “he is my husband” and stated, “We went there right away and even spoke with him, but he refused to acknowledge us, even his own wife.”

“Over the years, we lost hope of ever seeing him again until one of our relatives attending the Kumbh Mela noticed a man resembling Gangasagar and took his photograph,” said Gangasagar’s younger brother, Murli Yadav.

Additionally, Kalo Devi, Gangasagar’s mother, said, “I just want my son to come home to me somehow.”

The family is now hopeful that the long-standing mystery will be resolved by a possible DNA test. While some family members have gone back to their homes, others are still at the Kumbh Mela, watching Baba Rajkumar.
