When they both revealed that they were adopted while conversing about their families, it dawned on them that they might be more than just buddies. They found out through a DNA test that they were identical twins and that explained why they looked alike.

19-year-old Georgian Elene Deisadze has reconnected with her twin sister, whom she had not even known existed until a few months prior. Deisadze discovered a girl that resembled her on TikTok at some point in 2022. Out of curiosity, she quickly contacted Anna Panchulidze, the other girl, and the two quickly became friends.

However, they were unaware at the time of a deeper bond between them than just friendship. When they both revealed that they were adopted while conversing about their families, it dawned on them that they might be more than just buddies.

They found out through a DNA test that they were identical twins and that explained why they looked alike. “We developed a friendship without realising we might be sisters, but we both sensed a unique connection between us,” Elene remarked.

Lia Korkotadze, Elene’s adoptive mother, revealed that she had taken in the six-month-old girl from a hospital in 2005. Even though the twin sisters’ reunion was accidental, they are still unaware of their true parents. This is because they are some of the thousands of Georgian children who are victims of human trafficking; these are babies who were abducted at birth and sold to childless couples.

With the assistance of Georgian journalist Tamuna Museridze, who manages a Facebook community devoted to reuniting newborns taken from their parents, the test for Elene and Anna was set up. It boasts over 200,000 members, including moms who, after learning years later that their babies might still be alive, were informed by hospital staff that they had passed away soon after birth.

Museridze, who discovered she was adopted, founded the organisation in 2021 to locate her biological family. She quickly learned of the widespread baby-selling scheme.
