This Old Video Of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Addressing The 1980s Farmers’ Protest Is Relevant Even Today

In view of the reaction of the Modi government to the country’s farmers’ protests, lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan shared an old video of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee speaking in support of the protests by farmers and farmers.

The video, from 1980, shows Vajpayee addressing a crowd about the plight of the country’s cotton and jute farmers. The then government was blamed for fixing prices for the crop and then not buying it on its own.

Vajpayee also clarified that, in the absence of proper storage space, because small-scale farmers had to sell their crops, they had to sell them at a quarter of the price. And for that reason, they were irritated.

While watching the video, some individuals fondly recalled Vajpayee, some others wondered about the mass hashtag campaign involving Bollywood celebs and cricketers.
