When Turia Pitt was 24 years old in 2011, she had no idea how her life would alter irrevocably. When a grassfire struck while running a 60-mile ultramarathon, her life became a “before and after” tale. She fulfilled her aim of working as an Australian mining engineer in 2011. But during a marathon, everything changed drastically when she got caught in a terrible blaze. She initially underestimated how dangerous it would be, but she quickly learned that everything in its path was being consumed by fire, forcing her to take drastic steps to survive.

She scrambled up a sheer rocky cliff face with nowhere else to go, knowing that the fire would only get worse as it advanced uphill. She knew it would soon become the hottest place in the region, but there was nothing she could do about it; evading the unrelenting fire was out of the question.

She could feel her flesh starting to burn even though the flames hadn’t yet touched her. But at that moment, her boyfriend was the only thing on her mind. Her fear that she would never see him again kept her awake and motivated to continue.
She was eventually saved. Despite being chopped out, she had serious injuries and remained in a coma. Medical professionals tried their hardest, but they didn’t think she would live.
She is special in every way.
She defied the odds and lived, even though she looked completely different after the incident. She committed herself to her recuperation for more than two years, having reconstructive surgery on her body, face, and hands.

Her lover Michael was by her side the entire difficult trip, never wavering. He even bought her an engagement ring while she was unconscious, demonstrating his dedication to her. He clung to the unwavering hope that one day he would give her that ring and they would experience the joys of marriage together.
Michael was out on business that fateful day when he got the disturbing news that Turia was on her way to the hospital. The physicians grimly readied him for the worst, and it was the start of an unfathomable nightmare.
The following months were the hardest.
He decided to put Turia’s health first, so he left his job to take care of her. He stayed by her bedside obediently for a whole month, holding onto the notion that things would get better in the end. He gained knowledge of the nuances of feeding her, changing her dressings, and meticulously and precisely adhering to her prescription schedule during this time.

Even if they were frustrated some days, Michael was always a reliable source of support. Turia admits that there were times when she lost her anger with him because she was so frustrated. During those difficult times, she secretly hoped he would let go, but he stubbornly refused.
Her resiliency was sparked by his steadfast affection. Motivated by the intensity of his dedication, Turia realised that she couldn’t just quit. Driven by this affection, she mustered her courage and laboured ceaselessly to restore her physical well-being.
Mirror gazing was a great struggle for her. It took her a long time to come to terms with her current appearance. Saying kind things like, “I love your beautiful eyes,” and “You’re looking beautiful today, Turia,” really helped. What goals do you have for today?
People used to wonder why Michael stayed. “I was drawn to her soul and her character,” he clarified. The only woman who will keep helping me achieve my goals is her.
Michael’s encouragement allowed Turia to gradually come to love and embrace who she is. She now sees the same stunning girl that Michael does when she looks in the mirror. She is aware that true beauty stems from within, not only from our appearance.

Together, the pair overcame the difficulties of their injuries and recuperation, and in 2016 they celebrated their marriage.
They now enjoy a new beginning with two beautiful children. Turia, who is still regarded as a medical marvel, went back to jogging and now gives occasional speeches aimed at inspiring others.
Michael never showed her any different treatment throughout it all. Her personality has always appealed to him, and he still does. Their tale serves as a potent reminder that genuine love exists and is resilient.

A: I got caught in a grassfire while running a 100-kilometer ultramarathon. I was hacked out of the isolated desert, barely surviving, with 65 per cent of my body completely burned. I had more than 200 surgical procedures, lost seven fingers, and endured two arduous years of rehabilitation.
