Men are gradually adopting apparel that has the label “only for women,” much as women have done throughout the years with male clothing. Recently, a lot of social media influencers have been pushing the crucial idea that clothing, including skirts and sarees, as well as cosmetics, should not be gender-specific. Two males wearing skirts were spotted travelling in the Delhi metro, shattering gender stereotypes in one such case.

In the video posted by user Sameer Khan, he and his friend can be seen casually strolling through the Delhi metro while others stare on in shock and interest. They are both wearing T-shirts, denim skirts and a pair of trainers.

Instagram users have overwhelmingly responded positively to the video, with many applauding their poise and fashion taste. It’s comfortable, elegant, and quite versatile, as one user put it. See why no one should wear it and don’t. One person said, “And boys say they don’t have much clothes aside from shirts and trousers, we can normalise these outfits.”

The incident sparked a social media debate on dispelling gendered wardrobe prejudices.

‘Really it’s not a bad concept… Boys too have the right of new fashion changes,’ a third person remarked. ”And killed it,” a fourth person added. There were a few people who disagreed with the idea, though. Another remarked, “The masculine trait in boys has ended because of people like you.”

Lungi is acceptable but skirts are not, as one user pointed out in defence. They essentially serve the same goal, which I don’t understand.

A man wearing a skirt was spotted performing a catwalk inside a Mumbai local train last month.
