One of the most well-known male vocalists who dominated the Bollywood scene in the 1980s and 1990s was Udit Narayan. Falak Tak Chal, Pehla Nasha, Tip Tip Barsa Paani, Main Nikla O Gaddi Leke, and numerous other hit songs all featured his wonderful voice. Singing in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Nepali, Malayalam, Bhojpuri, and many other languages, the singer was born in Baisi village in Supaul district, Bihar. Following the viral success of a video footage of him kissing a fan on the lips during his live performance, Udit Narayan has been in the news lately. After that, he received harsh criticism on social media from internet users. After being heavily criticised for his actions, the singer even provided an explanation and defence.
This is not the first time the singer has been at the centre of controversy; Udit was once embroiled in a marriage scandal. This is all the information regarding his marital dispute that damaged his reputation.
Ranjana Jha was Udit Narayan’s first wife
In 1984, Udit Narayan married a woman named Ranjana. His marriage never made the news because he was not well-known at the time and was not well-known in Indian cinema. Soon after, Udit left his wife Ranjana behind and relocated to Mumbai in search of better possibilities in order to establish himself in the industry.
Without divorcing his first marriage, Udit Narayan got married again:
Udit Narayan met Deepa, a vocalist who was also having trouble in Bollywood, in Mumbai. Udit married Deepa in 1985 without divorcing his first wife, Ranjana, after they fell in love quickly. In 1987, Udit and Deepa also had a boy, whom they named Aditya Narayan.
When Ranjana got to a Patna hotel where Udit was staying for one of his gigs, she entered the scene. With a few reporters in tow, Ranjana stormed into Udit Narayan’s room and made their marriage public. In response to the reporters’ follow-up questions, Ranjana disclosed that she had previously been married to the musician, but he had cheated on her. Ranjana stated,
“I have come here to seek justice. He kept me in the dark about his second marriage with Deepa, also a playback singer, for years, and now I have come to seek my rightful place.”
Ranjana revealed that Udit Narayan made suicide threats:
Additionally, Ranjana told the media that Udit did not divorce her before to his marriage to Deepa. When asked about Ranjana’s allegations, Udit rejected them, claiming she was attempting to damage his reputation. Following Udit’s remarks, Ranjana pursued legal action and levelled grave charges against the singer. When questioned why she had kept quiet for so long, Ranjana responded,
“Whenever I threatened to go public about our marriage, he silenced me with the threat of committing suicide. Now I have no fears and I will take legal recourse.”
Following the proof and evidence, Udit Narayan ultimately agreed to marry Ranjana for the first time:
Problems in Udit’s household started when his first wife filed a lawsuit to obtain justice and presented documentation proving her marriage to Udit. Aditya Narayan, his 19-year-old son, had severe emotional turmoil during the issue. The artist released a statement upon his acceptance of Ranjana as his first wife,
“I, Udit Narayan, son of Harekrishna Narayan Jha, have accepted Ranjana as his wife and agreed to provide for her maintenance and upkeep.”
Ranjana disclosed that she did not accept any money from Udit Narayan and that she would like to continue being his wife alongside Deepa:
Everyone thought that Udit Narayan had resolved the issue by divorcing Ranjana and paying her a respectable amount of alimony, but Ranjana disclosed that she did not accept any money from him. She also told the media that she is grateful for Udit Narayan’s recognition and that she would like to continue being his wife alongside Deepa.
“I have no complaint or grievances against the singer’s wife, Deepa Narayan, and their son, Aditya… I have got what a wife should have. I have not settled for any monetary allowance from the singer. He has agreed to keep me with him. It was a family matter, and our differences have been sorted out. He has agreed to keep me as wife along with Deepa.”
