According to stern parents, becoming a couch potato for an extra hour, playing video games, or eating bubble gum was unhealthy and reckless. That’s what they mean, at least. These “destructive” behaviors, as well as a few other odd, practices, seem to have a positive impact on our mood, brain, and wellbeing. If you give them a shot, you won’t have to wait long to see some intriguing results.

Chewing gum while reading, it turns out, has a number of health benefits. It helps with memory, concentration, alertness, and decision-making, among other things.

People who chewed gum during tests did 24 percent better on short-term memory tests and 36 percent better on long-term memory tests, according to studies. Another research discovered that chewing gum reduces stress by lowering levels of the hormone cortisol, which is involved in the production of stress reactions.

According to the report, fast-paced action video games with pop-up images and events help people take in sensory data and convert it into accurate decision-making and enhanced reactions. Furthermore, quick real-time strategy video games improve our brain’s capacity to learn. This trick, however, only works with fast-paced action games and not with slow-paced games like The Sims.

Swearing can help to relieve tension and irritation. According to a study conducted by Keele University’s School of Psychology, it may also improve pain tolerance. Swearing is an emotional outlet, but if you use it too much, it loses its emotional value and becomes a bad and unwanted habit.

Remember how your mother used to say that being messy was a sign of poor manners, disorganisation, and lack of discipline? Actually, our sloppy practises reveal the hidden ingenuity that exists inside us.

Kathleen Vohs and her colleagues at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management conducted an experiment. Two groups of people were separated into tidy and messy rooms and told to come up with as many ping-pong ball uses as possible and write them down. The participants in the messy room came up with more innovative ideas, according to the results.

5. Sleeping in decreases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Early risers also accuse those who like to sleep in a little longer of being lazy and unmotivated. However, this is not the case. It’s possible that waking up early is harmful to your health.

People who wake up too early are more likely to develop high blood pressure, as well as artery hardening, heart attacks, strokes, and hypertension, according to this report. So, go ahead and listen to your body and get some more rest!

Despite the fact that gossiping is seen as malicious or untrustworthy, it has a positive impact on us. According to psychological studies, gossiping strengthens our ties with others and helps our friendships grow. Furthermore, gossiping lowers stress and anxiety levels. Groups that gossip work together better, are less selfish, and share more social knowledge.

Although a burp can sound unpleasant, it is a necessary part of our digestive process. It aids in the removal of unwanted gas that has accumulated in the stomach and aids in the maintenance of good gastric health. You must belch so that the gas does not remain in your stomach and you are free of heartburn. “It’s safer out than in,” as some people claim.

8. Skipping a shower: softens the skin and keeps good bacteria

We’re not suggesting that skipping showers on a regular basis is beneficial to your wellbeing, but it can be beneficial on occasion. Showering on a daily basis, particularly with hot water, can dry out your skin and cause wrinkles. Showering every other day will encourage your skin to replenish its natural oils, making it smooth and radiant.

Showering with soap on a regular basis often kills the healthy bacteria that your body produces as a natural antibiotic. Showering less often allows bacteria to remain on your skin longer, keeping you safe.

9. Using social media: offers emotional support and connects you to society.

Social networking has been shown to be a significant time sink and efficiency reducer. This is especially true if you use social media excessively. It has a positive effect on your life and psychological wellbeing at the same time.

Social media makes us feel less alone and more linked to society, allows us to seek emotional support from our friends, and motivates us to accomplish various goals by sharing ours with the world.

Are you one of those people who believes that taking a shower in cold water would make you sick right away? It turns out you may be mistaken. Cold water increases blood circulation, lowering uric acid levels while rising glutathione levels, an antioxidant that keeps all other antioxidants working at their best.

It also strengthens our immune system thus lowering blood pressure and clearing blocked arteries. Cold showers will also help you lose weight by activating fat-burning enzymes.
