Without a question, Bollywood produces some fantastic stories and films. The actors’ makeup and transformation skills, however, add to the film’s realism. They are sometimes unrecognizable, which is the appeal of the flicks.
There have been films in which the actor had to sit patiently through the full makeup process, most often every day before a shot. It took them about two hours to complete the entire process. The level of commitment is mind-boggling.
Here are some of the most important makeup makeovers in Bollywood:
1. Amitabh Bachchan – Paa
Auro or Paa was played by Amitabh Bachchan. A child who has Progeria, a life-threatening condition. Christien Tinsley (of The Passion of the Christ fame) and Dominie Till were among the makeup artists on the set (of The Lord of the Rings fame). The makeup look was challenging to achieve, but I managed it. The film was nominated for a National Film Award for its make-up work (2009).
2. Rajkummar Rao – Raabta
Raabta, on the other hand, did not perform as well as expected on the big screen. Rajkumar’s makeup, on the other hand, was meticulously applied. He was a 34-year-old man in the role. A cosmetics company from Los Angeles worked on it, and he was completely unrecognizable as a result. Even if you looked at his character for an extended period of time, you wouldn’t be able to tell it was him. Zuby Johal was the artist that worked on it, and he did an amazing job.
3. Kamal Haasan – Hindustani (Indian)
In this film, Kamal played two roles. So, obviously, the makeup had to be flawless. He had to morph into a 70-year-old for roles in the film, which was released in 1996. Michael Westmore and Michael Jones, both makeup artists, worked on their looks. It was well worth it since Kamal went on to win the National Award for the film.
4. Rishi Kapoor – Kapoor & Sons
In this film, Rishi Kapoor played a 90-year-old grandfather. Because that managed like excellent wine, the main goal was to make him appear older than he was. Here, Greg Cannom worked as a makeup artist. The make-up was flawless.

In this action thriller, Shah Rukh Khan plays a dual part, changing his appearance to play an infatuated fan. While SRK is no new to playing ‘obsessive’ roles, his artistic change was owing to Greg Cannom, who also worked on Rishi Kapoor’s appearance in Kapoor & Sons.
6. Hrithik Roshan – Dhoom 2
He was cast in the character of an international thief. Which, of course, had a lot to do with makeup. He became a thief, an elderly security guard, an elderly lady, and a dwarf. Sjaan Gillings demonstrated the brilliance of this makeup by nailing every one of the looks.
7. Kamal Haasan – Chachi 420
Mrs. Doubtfire, a Hollywood film, served as inspiration for the picture. The principal actor had to play a lady, which necessitated a great deal of on-point cosmetic expertise to make it look realistic. Michael Westmore, who earned an academy award for his cosmetics work, did an outstanding job.
8. Shabana Azmi – Makdee
It was Bollywood’s first comedy horror film. This necessitated not only excellent acting talents but also highly skilled makeup applications. Shabana needed to convert into a wicked witch, which she could only do thanks to Arun Aditya Seal’s magical hands.
9. John Abraham – Romeo Akbar Walter
Though we’re used to seeing John in films with a lot of action, firearms, and car flips, with him in charge of the entire scene. He was cast in a role that was a little out of his comfort zone. Preetisheel Singh did his makeup for him, and he played an elderly guy.
10. R. Madhavan – Rocketry – The Nambi Effect (yet to be released)
The film has not yet been released, but it is on the list. However, the photographs we saw on social media had already made us aware of the extensive makeup talents required. Maddy is reincarnated as a 77-year-old scientist. And, given Maddy’s youthful appearance, he’d require a lot of cosmetics.
11. Ranbir Kapoor – Sanju
In Bollywood, Sanju was one of the most notable instances of the positive side of makeup. Daily, the appearance required 3 hours to achieve. As a result, Ranbir resembled Sanjay Dutt to a tee. All of the magic was done by Dr. Murky and hairstylist Aalim Hakim.
12. Lara Dutta – Bell Bottom
We can already see how similar Lara appears to Indira Gandhi in the trailer. Lara commended her makeup artist for their Amazon job and inventiveness in a tweet, and we were similarly blown away by the transformation. Vikram Gaikwad is the mastermind behind the makeover.
13. Akshay Kumar – 2.0
It’s not easy to turn a human into a robot with the help of makeup. However, Legacy Effects, the film’s makeup company, accomplished it with ease.
