A family aboard the Vande Bharat Express, travelling from Shirdi to Mumbai on August 19, was horrified to discover a “dead cockroach” in their dinner. A video of the incident has leaked on social media, and the family, outraged by the revelation, reported to an Indian Railways official.

In a post on X, Rikki Jeswani detailed his family’s predicament, stating that one of them discovered a “dead cockroach” in the dal that was provided for lunch.

In the meantime, Jeswani reposted a post from X user Divyesh Wankhedkar that included images and a video of the incident. In addition to a picture of the tainted dal, the photographs also included a picture of the complaint that Jeswani had submitted to the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

On camera, Jeswani’s son was heard criticising the Indian Railways representative on the calibre of the food that the passengers on the train were provided.

“I was unable to finish the curd. My aunt informed me that she had discovered a cockroach in the dal while I was eating it. The dinner was the same for my 80-year-old grandfather as well. Will you be eating the same things as well?

The official encouraged Jeswani to register a complaint so that the problem could be looked into further, and Jeswani asked what the next step was.

In response to Wankhedkar’s post on X, IRCTC stated that the service provider has been penalised.

We sincerely apologise for the trouble we have caused you, Sir. The situation is being taken extremely seriously. The service provider has also been penalised, and officials have been assigned to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the service provider’s kitchen unit,” the IRCTC stated in their post.
