Zomato is frequently in the news, and this time it’s because of a consumer complaint that has generated internet debate. A user claimed that X, formerly known as Twitter, was charging more than the MRP for goods purchased from Bikanvervala. When Zomato saw the message, it took notice and replied in the comment section.
Zomato is criticized by a man for charging more than MRP for the BIkanervala order.
Recently, a man by the name of Raajesh Ohri filed a grave grievance against Zomato, the massive meal delivery service, on the social media site X. He complained in his post about paying more than the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) for goods he purchased from the renowned international snack and food brand Bikanervala.
Without holding back, Ohri publicly accused Zomato of “looting” customers through unjust pricing by tagging the company, its founder Deepinder Goyal, and Zomato Care. He criticized the platform for what he called the “audacity to deceive people” and questioned the morality of such actions. He boldly asked in his post when Zomato would cease charging its subscribers excessive prices.
“@deepigoyal @zomato @zomatocare Open loot by you people. You charged me more than MRP for the products ordered from Bikanervala. How come you have so much audacity to deceive people? When will this loot stop?”
Ohri also provided graphic evidence to back up his claim, contrasting the products’ actual MRP with the amount he was charged on the platform.

Without further ado, Zomato Care responded to the complaint giving its own justification
Raajesh Ohri’s complaint was promptly addressed by Zomato Care in a measured manner. They added that Zomato operates as an intermediary platform between clients and restaurant partners and consequently does not regulate the prices set by the restaurants listed on their app. Stated differently, the restaurant, not Zomato, sets the prices.
In order to further address the matter, Zomato Care noted Ohri’s order ID, recognized his concern, and gave him the assurance that the restaurant partner will be informed of his comments. They say they would ask the eatery to go at the prices.
“Hi there, Zomato, as an intermediary platform between customers and restaurant partners, does not govern the prices set by the restaurants on our platform. That being said, we have noted your order ID and will convey your feedback to the restaurant partner and ask them to look into this.”
On the other hand, if we ask why the prices vary after all, it’s because they often take into consideration commission fees levied by the platform, in this case Zomato, as well as packaging and shipping costs. Naturally, the clients are caught off guard by the exorbitant prices, even though they are not unlawful.
