After being captured on camera riding through the flooded section on a raft, a man in Delhi transformed a flooded road into an ad hoc boating route.
In a now-viral video posted by Instagram user Shree Khandelwal, the man was seen navigating the flooded road as tho he were on a boating excursion.
The man was seen in the footage holding a paddle while lying comfortably on a little raft. As they waded into knee-deep water, a number of people around seemed to assist in pushing the raft forward through the flooded road.
As the raft continued to glide through the stretch, their jeans had been rolled up to prevent them from becoming totally saturated.
An existing flooded road was transformed into what appeared to be an unplanned boating area by the peculiar sight. As he lay on the raft, occasionally clinging to the paddle as others around him assisted in guiding it through the flooded section, the man seemed largely unaffected.
Greater Kailash was described as Delhi’s “posh” district in the caption of the video, which also joked that although tho the locals pay high taxes, the roads seemed to turn into streams every time it rained.
The caption also made light of the drainage problem, implying that adequate drainage appeared to have a “waiting list” even in a high-end neighbourhood.
Online responses to the strange sight were conflicting. One user argued that while water naturally takes some time to flow after heavy rain, the waterlogging did not necessarily indicate that the drainage system had failed. They noted that it wouldn’t go away right away, comparing it to putting a bucket of water into a washbasin.
One commentator described the situation as chaotic, while another took a more caustic stance, claiming that the city’s flooded highways had essentially turned into free water playgrounds.
